I use MACBook Pro with macOS Mojave and the above works in it.I was trying to copy paste something from vim to another application and also, from that application to vim using right click with mouse and then copy and paste (or with Ctrl+ v and Ctrl+ c and also tried the Command version for mac OSX, obviously.).

Go to any external application and CMD + v to paste.

Press y, this will copy the selected text to clipboard.

Move the cursor around to select the text or lines you need to copy.

In vim command mode press v, this will switch you to VISUAL mode.
